Haryana has set its sight on developing the largest jungle safari park in the world. To be built in the Aravalli range, this safari park will span over 10,000 acres in multiple districts of Gurugram and Nuh. Currently, outside Africa, the largest safari park is in Sharjah (UAE), spread over around 2,000 acres. When compared, Haryana's proposed jungle safari is going to be 5 times larger. This jungle safari will have a wide array of attractions such as 4 dedicated zones for big cats like tigers and lions, herpetarium for amphibians and reptiles, a large herbivore (plant-eating animals) area, a section for exotic animals and birds, a large enclosure for birds, botanical gardens, nature trails, an underwater world, tourism zones, and many more.
Recently, in order to study the operations and designs of UAE’s Sharjah Safari, Mr. Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister for Forest, Environment, and Mr. Mohanlal Khattar, Minister of Power and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs made a visit to this jungle park. Later, Mr. Khattar highlighted how Haryana's NCR region has the immense potential of transforming into jungle safari. “The project will also help boost tourism in the area and generate job opportunities for local communities”- adds Mr. Khattar.
The safari project in Haryana will be developed through a partnership between the Haryana Government and the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, with financial support from the central government. To ensure world-class standards, two internationally experienced companies, selected through a global search, have been shortlisted. These firms will participate in a design competition to finalize the master plan for the park.
To confirm the project's viability, the Central Zoo Authority has already approved its technical feasibility. Additionally, a dedicated organization called the Aravalli Foundation will be established to oversee the development and smooth functioning of the safari park. As part of this effort, the government plans to implement its Home Stay Policy, which will allow villagers to offer accommodations and tourism-related services, helping them benefit economically from the initiative.
The Aravalli range is home to a wide variety of wildlife. According to a recent survey, the region hosts 180 species of birds, 15 species of mammals, 29 types of reptiles and aquatic animals, and 57 species of butterflies. The new jungle safari park is designed to provide visitors with a unique experience of nature and wildlife, while playing a vital role in preserving this rich and diverse ecosystem.
